updates. (don't get too excited)

it has been a few months since i've visted ye olde blog. nothing earth-shattering has happened in the interim, regrettably and thankfully. the husband is now gainfully employed. so you know what that means:

my dogs are still entertaining as ever and create dust bunnies that i'm pretty sure could kick those bunnies' asses from 'watership down' if they ever met in a dark alley. and it would be a dance fight judged by david bowie, himself...but i digress...

speaking of the great one, in may, i finally lived out one of my bucket list dreams of becoming ziggy stardust for one night of glammed out splendor.

not only did i festoon a ziggy-inspired silver lame (that's lam-AY with an accent aigue, not "lame," because there was nothing "lame" about this ensemble!) jumpsuit with cape and futuristic shoulder pads, but i also had the ovaries to sing "ziggy stardust" on the karaoke machine for no less than 50 screaming fans.

well, they weren't exactly screaming, and i'm not quite sure they were fans, either, since most of them had no clue what song i was singing. i could have taken the easy route and gone for "changes," since most people know the chorus, and the song is easily identifiable as a david bowie anthem. the problem is that i was born with greater estrogen stores than testosterone, and my voice simply will not go that low. "ziggy" is more in my range, as well as being a superior song, in my opinion.

with that said, it takes a lot of chutzpah to wear full-body lame. admittedly, it wasn't the most figure-flattering look and the actual david bowie circa 1972 was skinnier than most anorexic runway models:

but the appeal of doing an hommage to my idol drowned out my self-consciousness. i *became* bowie, even if only in my own head. and it was glorious.
oh, and i won 'best costume.' i think bowie would have been proud.
